Do you have a plan for your life? Or, are you just bumping along? Whew. Hit a speedbump here. Wow. Better slow down there. It’s high time you thought about your life from an overall perspective.

You need a ROADMAP for Success. Think of it as a blueprint for your nursing career. It’s a way for you to plan for your future. To prioritize what’s important to you and what is not. No need for it to be complicated.

Follow the “KISS” adage – “Keep it simple, Sweetheart!”

Move forward in your life as a nurse and/or as a Professional Legal Nurse Consultant by taking it one rung on the ladder of life at a time. You want a clear path, but one that allows for flexibility because you’ll need it.

Life and Education are not linear. There’s not just one path to success.

Start here:

  1. Write down your Goals. You can use Evernote, Google Docs, or just plain hand write it on paper. Be sure it’s portable and, even, shareable. You’ll want to be able to refer to it often. For example, “I want to have three attorney clients in my Professional Legal Nurse Consultant business within one month from today”.
  2. Write down three steps for each Goal: Keep telling yourself “KISS”. It needs to be simple and CLEAR. Specifically, what do you need to do in order to achieve that goal? Staying with our example above, consider these steps: 1) Go to Martindale and find ten attorneys in my area; 2) Write a short email introducing myself and telling the lawyer how my PLNC services could help in legal cases; and 3) Send the email to all ten attorneys.
  3. Evaluate your Goals AND your Steps. Sometimes it’s the goal that needs readjusting. Other times, it’s the steps. But, it could be you making excuses for yourself. Regroup and talk to yourself like you would talk to your best friend. Be kind. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

Consider an Accountability Partner. That’s someone who will hold you accountable and responsible for attaining your life and education goals. You can find that person in the PLNC Certification Course.

Be sure you track your progress. There’s always a good feeling you get when you realize you’re making progress.

Progress not perfection.
